Since the opening of the NAC in 2012, the municipality of Houthalen-Helchteren has been working with payment terminals at the counters. Recently, the Casino and the local service centres also jumped on the cashless bandwagon.
As the safety of our staff has always been of paramount importance to us, the use of cashless payments has been constantly promoted among our staff and brought to the attention of our citizen-customers. Especially in Corona times, it is essential to give the health of employees and customers the necessary attention and we want to avoid cash payments as much as possible.
Coming from a 100% cash story in 2012, we note that approximately 80% of transactions currently take place via the payment terminals. Our firm objective for the coming years will therefore continue to be the completely cashless handling of payments.
